Clinical Services

Ageing is the most common cause of cataract. Every person gets it sooner or later, especially people over 60yrs of age. Other causes include diabetes, injury, usage of certain medications, and secondary to other eye diseases such as uveitis and glaucoma. Cataracts can occur early in diabetes, myopia (short sight) and as a hereditary predisposition.

It is a cloudiness of the normally clear lens in the eye. It blocks light from reaching the retina and hence causes unclear vision. As the cataract advances, this cloudiness of vision increases over a period of time until the vision is completely impaired. The only solution is to remove the cloudy lens and implant a clear artificial intraocular lens in its place. This restores vision in a majority of patients.

A state of the art unit, Cataract and IOL department of Shraddha is nationally and internationally highly acclaimed one.

On an average, nearly 400 cataract surgeries are done at the hospital every day. The department is fully equipped to do all forms of cataract surgeries with the cutting edge technologies, ensuring highest quality care.

Glaucoma, otherwise known as Kala Motia is an eye disease in which there is an increase in pressure inside the eye. Just as some people have high blood pressure, in the same way, a glaucoma patient has high eye pressure. If the eye pressure remains high for a long time it damages the optic nerve which carries the light sense from the eye to the brain. This damage to the nerve is irreversible and leads to permanent and incurable blindness. That is why glaucoma is a dangerous disease of the eye and has been labeled as "lurking thief of vision".

The Glaucoma services of Shraddha has experts who treat patients with conditions that have a poor prognosis, including those who have had unsuccessful glaucoma surgery or have secondary glaucoma, advanced glaucomatous optic atrophy and patients who have vision in only one eye. Congenital and childhood glaucoma are also part of the special expertise. Introduction

The idea of establishing dedicated community ophthalmology wing is the brainchild of Dr. Sri Ganesh , Managing Trustee of SEC Trust. The exposure gained by Dr.Sri Ganesh during his visits to several parts of India resulted to establishment of community outreach department 2005.

The objective behind initiating community outreach program was :
